Emergencies

If you need to access mental health services in a crisis go to the emergency department of the nearest general hospital.

In the Ottawa area, emergency psychiatric services are available at The Ottawa Hospital (General or Civic campuses), Queensway-Carleton Hospital, Montfort Hospital, and Cornwall General Hospital.

In Lanark, Leeds and Grenville, people experiencing a mental health crisis may access the Mental Health Crisis Line by calling 1-866-281-2911.

Call 911 if someone is a danger to themselves or others.

Admissions

Individuals are admitted to the hospital or an outreach service based on a referral and assessment process. Most services require a referral by a family physician or other health care provider or agency. Individuals may self-refer to the Substance Use and Concurrent Disorders Program and the Sleep Disorders Service.

Referrals are followed by an assessment by the program team to determine if the program will meet your treatment needs. If you are not admitted to one of our hospital programs, we will try to identify another program or service better suited to your needs.

Programs & Services

Clinicians at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre and Brockville Mental Health Centre work with their partners throughout the health care system to ensure that patients have timely access to specialized psychiatric services and that treatment is tailored to individual patient needs.

Each program provides services that may include inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, day hospital, assertive community treatment, outreach and psychiatric rehabilitation.
