Substance Use & Concurrent Disorders
Relapse Prevention Program
The Relapse Prevention Program is offered as part of the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre's Substance Use & Concurrent Disorders Program.
Through individual and group therapy, clients are taught the dynamics of relapse to permit development of insight into their own particular situation.
Patients are encouraged to evaluate their unique pattern of thinking and behaviours, which may have lead to the relapse. In addition, clients learn how and when to intervene in their own relapse dynamic.
The Relapse Prevention Program takes place on Monday afternoons from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The duration of the Program varies according to the needs of each individual participant. Most patients attend for four to six months.
Program Objectives
The Relapse Prevention Program aims to:
- Teach patients (individually or in groups) the dynamics of relapse and prevention; and
- Teach patients when and how to intervene in their own relapse prevention.
Eligibility
The Relapse Prevention Program is available to clients from outside agencies, as well as those who participated in other services offered by the ROMHC's Substance Use & Concurrent Disorders Program.
