Early Intervention Program

What is the Early Intervention Program?
The Early Intervention Program (EIP) is a school-based psycho-educational program which supports prevention and early intervention for adolescents with risk factors for substance abuse and related mental health issues.

The EIP aims to increase the ability of at-risk adolescent to use life skills and positive coping strategies to make healthy life decisions.  The Program helps build social skills, communication skills, assertiveness, decision-making, and self-esteem.

The Program operates under a 'train the trainer' model in identified schools and community agencies.  This training prepares participating schools and community agencies to run the program on their own.

The EIP also offers a six-week structured parent program to help parents encourage their teen while attending the adolescent program through information, prevention strategies and support.

Who is EIP for?
The EIP is primarily for adolescents, aged 12 to 18 years, who are at risk or who may have begun to experience school, social, family, or legal problems related to substance abuse or other related mental health issues.

Participation is EIP is voluntary and the adolescent must be attending a school where the program is being offered and have written consent of their parent/guardian to participate.

How to Access the Program
Adolescents interested in the EIP must be attending one of the schools where the Program is available and contact can be made through school teachers or guidance counselors.

Hours of Service
The EIP operates from Monday to Friday during the school year, and specialized summer programming is also available.  Evening parent programs are offered at various locations in the National Capital Region.
