Community Outreach

The Psychiatric Outreach Team

Serving the City of Ottawa and Renfrew County

The Psychiatric Outreach Team provides services to adults who:

  • are homeless or at risk of homelessness;
  • have a severe and persistent mental illness including a concurrent disorder of addictions and mental illness;
  • use the services of partner agencies including emergency shelters, rooming houses, residential care facilities, drop-in centres, and community health centres; and
  • are not supported by another mental health service.

The Psychiatric Outreach Team provides the following services:

  • multidisciplinary on-site mental health screening, assessment and intervention, including crisis intervention, for the clients of partner agencies;
  • ongoing education and support to the staff of partner agencies;
  • linkage of clients of partner agencies to appropriate mental health, health, and addictions services including hospital based emergency and acute care services.

The Psychiatric Outreach Team also fulfills research, education and advocacy roles around severe and persistent mental illness and homelessness.

Staff
The Psychiatric Outreach Team is an interdisciplinary team of nurses, social workers, a psychiatrist, a psychologist, a psychometrist, a psychiatric nurse practitioner, an occupational therapist, a recreational therapist, and addictions workers.

Weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

For assistance after-hours, on weekends and on holidays, clients and partner agencies are asked to contact either the Mental Health Crisis Service at 613.722.6914, or the emergency department of a local hospital.
