LHIN approves funding to ensure smooth transfer of acute mental health services to Brockville General Hospital

Brockville, February 04, 2009 - The South East Local Health Integration Network (SE LHIN) has approved $225,000 to study and plan for the transfer of 24 Acute Care Mental Health Beds, the Assertive Community Treatment Team, Outpatient Services, Crisis Outreach Services, ECT and EEG services from the Royal Ottawa Health Care Group's Elmgrove Acute Care Services to Brockville General Hospital (BGH).
This funding begins the planning phase and will allow BGH and the Royal Ottawa Health Care Group (ROHCG) to move ahead with the planning required to ensure a successful and smooth transfer of the acute mental health services between the sites.
This transfer of services was agreed upon as part of the 1997 Health Services Restructuring Commission (HSRC) Directives, which both the BGH and ROHCG have an obligation to implement. It will centralize the psychiatric acute care services in the Brockville region.
"Our community has waited many years for this to occur and it is great to be moving forward," stated Ray Marshall, Brockville General Hospital's President and CEO. "I am pleased to receive the support from the SE LHIN to move ahead with this transfer."
