Patient & Family Resource Centres

Mental Health Community Library - ROMHC Campus

The Mental Health Community Library, ROMHC campus, was established in 1998 to provide members of the public, especially patients and their friends and family, with information about mental illness and addiction problems.

Funded and supported by the Royal Ottawa Volunteer Association, the Library provides information on:

  • specific mental illnesses including treatments and management options;
  • mental health legislation and policies;
  • community and family support resources; and
  • upcoming workshops and meetings.

Subject matters are chosen specifically for their relevance to people who are mentally ill and those who love and care for them. The collection of material grows continually as we acquire additional publications and new information becomes available.

Information is available in many different formats such as books, video cassettes, brochures, pamphlets, newsletters, magazines and journals. Access to the Internet is also available for those who wish to surf the World Wide Web for additional resources.

Notices of relevant, current and upcoming events in and around Eastern Ontario are posted on the community library's bulletin board.

The community library is staffed by helpful, friendly volunteers who have been specially trained to know the resources and assist clients in finding the information they need. Some volunteers are themselves living with a mental illness.

Location:
The Mental Health Community Library is located at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre, 1145 Carling Avenue, in Ottawa. The staff at the reception desk in the main lobby can provide directions. The library is open Monday to Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.
