Telehealth Services: Canada's First CCHSA Accredited Telehealth Program

The Royal Ottawa Health Care Group (ROHCG) has been an innovator in the development of telepsychiatry and telemental health services and distance education through televideo.

Using video conferencing technology, the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre has psychiatric specialists who can provide consultation services regarding the following mental health issues:

  • Schizophrenia;
  • Mood disorders;
  • Anxiety disorders;
  • Dual Diagnosis;
  • Geriatric psychiatry; and
  • Substance use and concurrent disorders.

The ROHCG began offering services in 2002 as a partner with Project Outreach, an initiative supported by Health Canada's Canadian Health Infrastructure Partnership Program (CHIPP).

The telehealth pilot project phase is now complete, and the ROHCG along with its partner the University of Ottawa's Northern Ontario Francophone Psychiatry Program were applauded by Health Canada for their accomplishments.

The Royal Ottawa Health Care Group is a member of the Ontario Telemedicine Network serving clients in Eastern and Northern Ontario, working closely in partnerships with Champlain and Southeast Ontario districts.

The ROHCG Telehealth Program is proud to be Canada’s first Telehealth care provider accredited through the new Telehealth Accreditation Standards developed by the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation (CCHSA).
