Continuing Medical Education
The importance of Continuing Medical Education (CME) and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in psychiatry is significant, driven by the prominence of mental health disorders seen in the general practice community, and the growing need for specialists in psychiatry.
This field is composed of a large amount of shared experience and practice, with many allied health professionals. Education provides a rich opportunity for networking, which is essential in modern psychiatry.
Part of the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine, the Department of Psychiatry recognizes that in order to better serve the community and help the Royal Ottawa Health Care Group reach its goal of becoming a Centre of Excellence, the pursuit of CME and CPD has to become very proactive, efficient and proficient.
As such, CME and CPD will become an integral part of the mission of all the ROHCG's clinical departments under the direction of Dr. André Gagnon.
This challenges us to cultivate active partnerships (for example, with the Canadian Mental Health Association and other university departments/faculties), as well as synthesize very specific groups of expertise ranging from medical education to marketing and promotion.
